THE YOUNG WOMEN’S DRUMMING EMPOWERMENT PROJECT is ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS from YOUNG WOMEN ages 12-18 for its 5th Annual SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM! The program meets Wednesdays (5:30-8pm), Thursdays (5:30-8pm) and Saturdays (11am-3pm) every week for 8 weeks, starting July 8, and ends in 4 final public performances. Young women will study West African drumming, Poetry writing, Spoken word technique, Free-styling and Beat-boxing techniques, Movement/Dance, Song-writing and singing, and Theater/Performance technique with outstanding local artists. Together, they develop their own “set list” of rhythms, rhymes, poems, songs, dances and skits. The project is especially geared towards young women who are creative but would benefit from skills, guidance and mentorship to help them fully express themselves.
