Women (and womxn)’s empowerment through the drum, incarnate. I call it Drumming Empowerment. We will chant while playing a simple downbeat on our drums, leading up to a primal scream, while drumming. We will reach down into the center of our individual and collective pain, and let it fly. We will also learn basic djembe technique and a couple patterns and songs, and have time to create our own rhythm together by adding in one player at a time. Other instruments are welcome if you wish to bring them – melodic instruments like flutes, for instance – or other drums such as frame drums. Djembe drums available for rent ($10) or purchase ($195-$495 range) from Drumlady K. All playing levels welcome.
